SPORTS ILLUSTRATED ARTICLE DEBUNKED

Wherever there is a secret there is no room for more than two people ! Even then when the truth comes out each suspects the other of "dishing the dirt" !

SI has published an article which dissappointed those mushrooms who hide in CNF and feed upon conjecture and innuendo. An article composed of supposition and stories that have been in the public domain for a decade or more produces a YAWN and discourages readers from buying the magazine !

Advertisers spend their money to get results and declining readership will see them spend their resources elsewhere.

Cyclingnews.com has had a lot of advertisers and if you are like me you will choose to buy product from sites that do not encourage a man's reputation to be torn apart by illinformed and biased commenters who are trying to out do each other with their speculations. Fiction will always be more interesting than fact.

Below a link to a rebuttal of some of the SI article :

January 2011

Winter 2011 is challenging elsewhere. Disasters caused by weather events are making life miserable for many in diverse parts of the world. Not having bought a Season Ski Pass because of the availibility of Ski Touring i have many more options. The past week i have been on the road bike in balmy conditions much like i would expect in late March. Clothing soused in road water and debris goes in the washing machine when i return and the bike gets a complete clean as i sit in the sun. The week before was more challenging with dry roads but temps below -10c meant that there were several layers needed.

Yesterday i found myself riding alongside a local racer wearing the usual attire for the Tour de France in July , Cycle suit of short sleeves and bib shorts, an old jacket around my waist in case i needed an extra layer. He was bundled up in longs and shoe covers, probably he was trying to lose weight as had i been wearing the same i would have been sweating rivers of salt. The day started out sunny and after 15mins i entered a misty area where i could hardly see the water on the road and even after moving to side roads i found the need to turn back to the sunny area for safety's sake.

Even in sun you still get the occasional holiday maker who decides that their horn needs testing, this time a Volvo with Dutch plates. Reminded me of the visit to Rotterdam where i rode the thursday training with Lance and the lads. Mr Plod decided to call a halt in the back country lanes because there was a cycle path alongside where we were riding. Could it have been this "keeper of the law" was looking to get himself on TV ? The media contingent had already left by the time he made himself available so there was a lot of huffing & puffing to no avail. Lance laid the law down to the team and we carried on riding back to the hotel.

Cycling Silk posted another blog entry recently contrasting the Law's approach to two separate incidents. Police Caution to a motorist who pushed a cyclist into the path of a car causing bodily injury and a Student sentenced to 2 2/3years for dropping a fire extinguisher into an area where Police Officers were working . Magistrates have their own way of dealing with matters but need the Police to pass the matter to the CPS for action rather than thinking they can take the easy rote to avoid the day in court.

The Yellow bike is a REEF monocoque carbon frame with Shimano 105 9 speed that i built up some years ago. Spends all of it's time in store so would be interested to hear offers for it's new home.

Justice Denied

TOO lazy to do the job properly a petty official tries to deny Justice to a cyclist who is able to handle the Obstacle course.

Home Office Response
A Home Office official at the 'Direct Communications Unit' has diverted my letter addressed to Theresa May MP to the Ministry of Justice on the grounds that 'the matters raised are the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice'.
All in a day's work I suppose to redirect a complaint on to somebody else, but is it not truely deeply shocking that an official at the Home Office does not appreciate that his/her department is responsible for the police service?
I have heard that other complaints involving the police have been misdirected in a similar way.
I shall be e mailing again asking that my letter be put before the Home Secretary.

"Dear Sirs,

I have received a letter dated 23rd December indicating that my letter of 22nd December (a copy of which is again attached) has been passed to the Ministry of Justice by an individual whose signature looks like 'M. Mioh'.
Kindly note that my letter was addressed to, and intended for, Theresa May MP, the Home Secretary and should not be redirected to the Ministry of Justice.
I find it disappointing that anybody working in the Home Office should think that the matters I raise in my letter about the police are the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice. They are not.
I would be grateful for your early confimation that my letter has been passed to Mrs May.
Yours faithfully,
Martin Porter"

How many of you out there feel as i do that Martin has a case that deserves proper respect and with the evidence available a conviction of the perpetrator.

Enjoy the New Year Martin !

Derailing your previous letter just serves to create a bigger problem as "Justice delayed is Justice denied"!

Does the unfortunate petty official not realise who he is dealing with?

It is no longer You ! It will be the Whole Cycling Community that will be backing you , as we the "unwashed , Legally unaware" are relying on your efforts to change the "mindset" of those who Should know better!
