LETTER TO CYCLING IRELAND

Reports in the Media , indicate that you , Cycling Ireland , will be hearing Pat Mc Quaid speak about Cycling Ireland proposing him for his third term as President of UCI ! Just about any Cycling fan , WORLDWIDE ; will tell you ,  that they have reservations about his suitability for this Post ! In fact , had this Man any conscience , he would have either stood down whilst the " UCIIC " , conducted their investigation , as a result of his setting them in place , OR he would have resigned , in recognition of his " Conflicts of Interest "!

Not being a member of your Federation , i can only offer my observations , however , being born in Dublin and living in Europe , i feel that i have an interest in the outcome of your deliberations . I am led to believe there is an Australian on your board , Vern Power ? No doubt he has expressed his opinion , and as i am led to believe , has Dr. Conor Mc Grane ? Reading a number of Reports , there are suggestions , that the board of Cycling Ireland are not unanimously in agreement , about nominating Pat Mc Quaid for continuing in the post of President at the UCI .

With the controversies created by the USADA investigation that led to the " Life Time Ban on Lance Armstrong " , there appears to be many issues requiring further investigation !

Further to this issue , there is the matter of the " Information passed to Swiss Authorities " , by Paul Kimmage in November 2012 ! During the period 1990 through to current times , YOU , like other Cycling Fans and Cycling Stakeholders , will have been aware of the amount of information , that Paul Kimmage has published in respect of the " Doping Conspiracies " in Cycling Sport !

May i venture to add my support to the call for Cycling Ireland to hold an " EGM ", thus giving the FULL MEMBERSHIP , the opportunity to voice their opinion as to the acceptability of Cycling Ireland , nominating Par Mc Quaid , once again ?

Should you have any doubt of the feelings of Cycling Fans in respect of Pat Mc Quaid , you would do well to view " Cycling News Forum " threads listed below !

http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=15417

http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=19631

Further to this site,  you will see other forums voicing their opinion also !

With April 12th , fast approaching , WE , The Cycling Fans , are hoping that Cycling Ireland will OPT to have an EGM ! Should you do so , you will see the level of discontent with the UCI .

When you look at today's media reports about the controversy surfacing in respect of rule " 1.2.019 ", currently causing concern in USA Cycling , then add this , to all the other unresolved issues , you will see what a quagmire , Cycling Sport , finds itself bogged down in !

Sincerely

Skippy Mc Carthy

Women RACERS --CHEATED !

This morning the " Cycling Australia Review " was released , for me it doesn't appear to do the job needed to CLEAN UP Cycling !  There is another report coming along , in the near future , which may reveal those questionable characters , that chose not to follow the examples , that Matt White and Steve Hodge set by resigning , long before they were asked to comply . Here is the link to the Report :

http://www.regional.gov.au/sport/resources/reports/files/cycling-australia-review-20130111.pdf

From a quick read of the documerntation , i discovered that the Author , thought that " CA's  " power to require " Past Dopers " to resign or reveal themselves , was questionable ?

What struck me between the eyes though , was the fact that there are few protections for the Aussie Women Racers ! Justice Wood was required by the Australian Sports Minister , Senator Kate Lundy , to review Australian Cycling , and thus discovered that whilst there is a " Mens Commission " , there is NO " Womens Commission "!  In this day of Equality , can you imagine any circumstance that allows Women to be treated with such disdain ?  Road Racing is an area in which Australia excells , most Olympics though , it is the women that win the most  Medals . I seem to recall that Anna Meares won the ONLY Aussie Cycling  Medal in Beijing !

UCI because it has it's back to the wall , has finally moved , this year , to introduce Equal Prize Money , for Women's Racing , about time !

Tonight , in visiting Twitter , i came across the Tweet advising that " NICOLE COOKE " , had retired ! Not only that she had a few words to say about her career !

Below is the text of the Statement , she doesn't mince words !

GOOD THAT SHE SPEAKS HER MIND !

  "  Introduction

Thank you all for coming here today to be with me and hear what I am going to say. I am here to announce my retirement and in one sense that is a simple thing to say and a simple story, but given that the sport I have given my life to has become more ‘fantastic’ than any soap opera and it has just given witness to the greatest ever sporting fraud, about which we get new and wider revelations each day, I thought it appropriate to share with you some of my experiences and, importantly some ideas for the future. And, understanding that for the duration of my career the sport has been through the darkest years, I want to both reflect and look ahead. I hope that in some small way, my experiences can help.

I am going to recount one of the aspects of my past career that few know about or understand, but about which I am most proud. I am going to talk about the abuse of drugs in the sport of cycling and my experiences and then I am going to talk about changes in the sport and look ahead at one overlooked but absolutely vital aspect.

I am very happy with my career. I have many, many happy memories over what has been my life's work since I was 12. I am now 29 so that is 17 years of my life that I have enjoyed and now I am bringing to a close. I have won every race and more that I dreamed I could win. As a little girl of 12, after beating all the boys at the Welsh cyclo cross championships, I stood in front of the TV cameras and stated to the BBC reporter -- when asked the question -- what would you like do in cycling -- I answered "I want to win the Tour de France and win the Olympic Road Race"

At 12 I dreamed like every child. I hoped that some of my dreams could come true. You cannot imagine how happy I am to be here with you now, with my dreams fulfilled. I am very happy.

As Jon said – I have quite a collection of tee-shirts. Yellow ones, Pink ones, ones with rainbow bands and ones with coloured rings on. As I bring down the curtain on my career, I want to share with you something that I take the greatest pride in, which now, we could not imagine not being here, something now taken for granted.

Legacy

At the age of 12 one is unaware of the problems ahead. One expects there to be an infrastructure for both boys and girls to develop and demonstrate their talents; to nurture them. One does not expect that nothing is available if you are a girl or that worse still, girls will be specifically excluded, not allowed to compete. It is somewhat of a handicap trying to demonstrate just how good you are on a bike when you are not allowed to ride.

There were no British Championship events for Girls. My father and I worked very hard with British Cycling, formerly the British Cycling Federation (BCF). We strived to convince them to hold events for girls and to provide the necessary support to help them progress. We had to do a great deal in so many ways. Cycling was, and continues to be, a male dominated sport and “equality” from many points of view still has a very long way to go.

I want to describe just two events that proved to be turning points and changed some things, so much for the better.

One of the turning points was at the British grass track championships. It was the 800m British Championships for Women and Victoria Pendleton took part, indeed her father helped to organize it. There were no Youth (under 16) or Junior (under 18) races and, being only 14 at the time, I was not allowed to compete with the Women. Furthermore, I was expressly forbidden, by the BCF from riding in the senior women’s Championship event. I had received a 3 page letter telling me all the reasons why I could not compete! However, there was a non-championship open event called an “omnium” which included an 800m handicap on the same day, which I was allowed to ride.

The first event that day for women was the British 800m Championship which was won by a smashing girl, Helen McGregor. Later on in the day the omnium started with the 800m handicap. As usual, in a handicap, the British Champion was put off on the scratch mark with all other riders to start ahead of the British Champion.

The handicapper knew that the BCF had officially instructed the organisers to stop me riding the women’s championships because I was too young, and decided to intervene and allow history to run its course. I was put off on scratch with Helen, while all the other riders, started in front of us.  Showdown time!

Worth far more than any medal was the applause of the crowd of cycling enthusiasts as I crossed the line first. Those are memories that will never be forgotten.

This was typical of many episodes with the BCF in that it must have been embarrassing for the officials. My father wrote to the official who had ruled I could not ride and asked for Championships to be established for girls. The result was that the following year, The BCF put on a superb set of British track championships. The Federation spoiled us with jerseys, bouquets and medals just like the boys, senior men and senior women. The BCF could not have done a better job in response to that embarrassment. Success.

From 1998 on, there have been Youth track events for girls and later, as they saw them succeed, they put on Junior events as well.. Now all the budding young stars like Jo Rowsall and Laura Trott can see an aspirational pathway for the girls, just as there has been for the boys, that simply did not exist when I started out on my career.

The same goes for Road Racing. When I started, the only 2 or 3 races per year available locally for under 16s, would feature myself as the only girl, my younger brother and about 3 others. I have the most vivid memory of 5 of us competing in a race in a howling gale and rain on Aberavon beachfront up and down between some cones. My brother was 11 and about ½ the size of the 6 foot 16 year old who won. This example highlights the immense efforts of the people who put it on, despite the circumstances and sorry state of cycling in Britain at the time. There are many good folk in the cycling community who go to immense efforts to do their very best. In that case it was Louise and Phil Jones, absolute stalwarts of the cycling community.

Perhaps one of the best memories of my cycling career came when I was a Youth age competitor. There was no British Championship Youth Road Race for me to ride.

My Dad looked closely at the rules and found a bylaw that enabled Youth age competitors to compete in Junior road events once they had attained the age of 16, even though they were still Youth Category. He then found another rule that said if there was no Junior event of equivalent standing, which was the case here, entrants were automatically eligible to ride the Senior equivalent event. Dad checked it all with the organiser of the Senior British Women's Road Race Championships Jon Miles to see if it was all ok, and it was. And so I rode my first British National Road race Championships having just turned 16, by being a Youth riding up as a Junior and because there was no Junior race I could compete with the Seniors! Winning that Senior title astounded a lot of people and winning this race is one of my favourite memories. Indeed, I still keep in touch with Jon who was very supportive at the time and took the care and time to talk to the small school girl asking for advice about the course.

Again the BCF and the lottery funded coaching structure was embarrassed that I won and beat the funded riders on their expensive equipment and resources, on my cheap bike. They had a British Cycling Team car and back up. I had dad on his bike with a saddlebag of energy bars and drinks to hand out!! What they did not know was that in the weeks before, I had spent the summer riding over the Grand Cols, including over the highest road ever taken by the Tour - the Cime de La Bonnette at over 2700m. I had ridden over this with mum, dad and my brother. I had put the hard work in and in my World, hard work counts for an awful lot.

I cannot help but think that, as a consequence of my letters the year before, and win that year; a Youth Circuit Race and a Junior category Road Race Championship and Series were put in place for female riders by the BCF. Again they could not have done a better job. They stepped up to solving the problem I brought to light in a magnificent way.

Now I can attend local youth age events and see 45 riders, all locally based and there are 18 or so girls competing in their own race. This is a huge movement. I know Brad Wiggins and Mark Cavendish who have followed me onto the continent have rightly had lots of publicity for their successes and that has done an awful lot for the participation in cycling of both sexes. However, previously, there were no events put on by the BCF for girls and no support for girls. That all changed following my success as a Youth in the British Senior Championships. Now the likes of Dani King and Laura Trott have a shop window to display their exceptional talents. There is an infrastructure that supports them and nurtures their talent. I am just as proud of my part in bringing about those permanent changes as I am of being the first ever British winner of the Olympic Road Race or a major tour.

The Dark Side

I left school. There was no UK Lottery funding available to me. The 12 year old inside me with a dream of riding the Tour de France and collecting a few tee-shirts, knew exactly what I had to do I had to get across to the continent and join a team. Going there was great. It was one of my dreams coming true for me. Women's Road cycling was huge at that time; both the women's Tour de France and Giro (Tour of Italy) were 2 week events and looking like they would expand to 3 weeks to match the stage races for men. The World Cup visited more parts of the World than the men's and had 160 rider fields and I was now going to be part of it.

I feel really privileged. I have not had to work, I have been able to travel the World and do something that really excites me and gives me great pleasure. That I was able to satisfy that inner 12 year old’s desire for collecting coloured clothes was another delight!

I have ridden professionally on the Road from 2002 to 2012. Those 11 years of my adult life I have given to the sport have been the very best I could give. It has been an incredibly turbulent time for the sport and it has not come out of it well. So many competitors have abused the sport by taking performance enhancing drugs and generated a travesty.

After the Festina tour in 1998 it was obvious to everyone who followed the sport that drugs were endemic. Like many, I hoped I could win races clean and that things would improve in that dark world as my career progressed. We were all told in 1999 that testing was now improved and the show had been cleaned up. After all we now had a new, brighter than bright, clean tour Champion in Lance.

At 18, in my first team house I did not have long to wait before encountering suspicious circumstances. In the fridge were various bottles and vials with diaphragms on top for extracting the contents via syringes. I rang dad and asked what I should do. We chatted it through and came to the conclusion that even condoning the presence of 'medicines' in the house I was staying, could lead to pressure being put on me, or in the worst case, if there was a raid on the house, it was highly unlikely that any of the "professionals " I was sharing the house with were going to say "it's a fair cop guv, That gear is all mine." Rather a finger would be pointed at the Brit who could barely speak Italian and somebody would say, "All these bottles – every one of them are hers ---- my mates and I tried to stop her but she just keeps doping every day". So, I emptied the fridge and put the lot out in the front garden and told the team manager to deal with it, either it went or I went. It went.

I have had days where temptation to start onto the slippery slope was brought in front of me. In my first Tour de France, when I was 19, as the race went on, my strength left me. I was invited into the team camper and
asked what "medicines" I would like to take to help me, and was reminded that the team had certain expectations of me during the race and I was not living up to them with my performance over the last couple of stages. I said I would do my best until I had to drop out of the race, but I was not taking anything.

Pressure was put on me by the team management but I was determined, and fortunate. I had a very good French team-mate who was in a similar predicament and she took the same stance I did. Team-mates that say "NO" are priceless. I would have been very naive to think that I would not encounter moments, like this. I am appalled that so many men bleat on about the fact that the pressures were too great. Too great for what? This is not doing 71 mph on the motorway when the legal limit is 70. This is stealing somebody else’s livelihood. It is theft just as much as putting your hand in a purse or wallet and taking money is theft. Theft has gone on since the dawn of time but because somebody, somewhere else, does it, does not mean it is right for you to do it. There can be no excuse.

In all this furore, the women's scene has been hit twice.

Every scandal on the men's side has caused sponsors to leave on the Women's side. And with such thin budgets, the losses have a greater relative impact on what survives. In areas where there was unique female development and growth, such as in Canada, which hosted a major Tour, a World Cup and the World Championships, all geared to supporting their number one rider - Genvieve Jeanson, there has been calamity. Perhaps Jeanson will not be a name familiar to you. She was the Canadian superstar, a national icon. She never tested positive. She missed a drugs test when she beat me and received a meaningless fine as a consequence. She exceeded the 50% Heamatocrit level and the authorities acted in line with their legislation and imposed a “health rest” on her.

Second fiddle to Jeanson during this time in Canada was a rider with morals called Lyne Bessette. Nobody can give back to Lyne Bessette or I the wins Jeanson stole from us. Throughout her career Jeanson repeatedly lied, just like Lance and yet now, she confesses that she had been on an extensive doping program since she was 16. The full story only came out, via quality investigative journalism.

Jeanson states, like all the others, she is “repentant” and all that is behind her. All these "born again" champions of a clean sport. They could be more accurately described as criminals who stole other's livelihoods who are only ever genuinely sorry about one thing - they are very sorry they were caught.

I do despair that the sport will ever clean itself up when the rewards of stealing are greater than riding clean. If that remains the case, the temptation for those with no morals will always be too great. Lyne summed it up quite nicely with a statement that won her few plaudits but was entirely right. Lyne stated: “Jeanson won whilst I came second. Whilst I earned $80,000 in a couple of years at the peak of my career, Jeanson was making $400,000 per year. Now she has “confessed” and this is newsworthy – they are going to make a film and Jeanson who cheated, will steal from others for a second time, telling the tale of how she robbed and lied.”

I can’t help thinking that the cheats win on the way up and the way down.

Tyler Hamilton will make more money from his book describing how he cheated than Bessette or I will make in all our years of our honest labour. The situation requires the very basics of morality. Please don’t reward people like Hamilton with money. That is the last thing he needs. Donate his literary prize and subsequent earnings from such publications to a charity. There are many places infinitely more deserving than the filthy hands of Hamilton. I am happy to offer some ideas!

It is obvious that this issue is wider than the remit of the sporting governing bodies. It is no modest “sporting fraud”. Wider society has to act.

I have ridden through some of the darkest days of the sport in terms of corruption by the cheats and liars. I cannot change the era or time that I am born into. I am very proud that I have met the temptations head on and have not wavered in my honesty or sold my ideals. I have always ridden true to myself and placed my morals beyond a need to win. I have ridden clean throughout my career. In a sport so tainted, this has generated many negative consequences. From the single example above; my team-mate and myself not getting paid for the rest of the year, after the Tour de France, being simple evidence. I am so very fortunate to have been able to have won clean. Perhaps a major factor is that the races are short – only 3 hours long! This is perhaps a hard and unpopular fact that the male side may need to embrace if it is genuine about wanting to clean itself up.

I have been robbed by drug cheats, but I am fortunate, I am here before you with more in my basket than the 12 year old dreamed of. But for many genuine people out there who do ride clean; people with morals, many of these people have had to leave the sport with nothing after a lifetime of hard work - some going through horrific financial turmoil. When Lance “cries” on Oprah later this week and she passes him a tissue, spare a thought for all of those genuine people who walked away with no reward – just shattered dreams. Each one of them is worth a thousand Lances.

Protection for women riders

Whilst the UCI have spent the past 10 years trying to defend the indefensible Armstrong position, with time wasting actions such as suing Paul Kimage for liable after Kimage dared to bring their "good name" into disrepute; whilst they have been so engrossed trying to find receipts for the equipment they bought after Lance made donations to them and suing Floyd Landis after he blew the whistle and holding press conferences calling Landis a liar; Whilst they have been so busy with all these "priorities", the women's road sport, that looked so promising in 2002 when I turned professional, has crumbled.

There are so many ways in which the UCI could support the sport for women, but instead they have acted, regardless of their intent, in a way that has caused the sport to lose events. Gone are the women's Milan San Remo, the Amstel Gold Race, Tour de L'Aude, Tour Midi Pyrenees, and Tour Castel de Leon. No HP tour in America. No Tours in Australia, New Zealand or Canada. Instead of a 2 week Tour de France we have nothing. Today, in January, the major race in the women’s calendar this year, the one from which I have the pink tee-shirt, has no organizer and no route.

With sponsors and support lost, the riders in the sport are exposed and vulnerable in so many ways. Many riders receive just token reward or rewards paid out in a capricious and unfair way. Some receive nothing. Then for those of us fortunate to be towards the top of the spectrum, those with a contract - too often, that piece of paper given to us is a joke. In 11 years of professional riding I have had to take 4 teams to court to achieve settlement against a straight forward contract to get my wages owed to me. I have won every time, but this is incredibly abrasive and exhausting in so many ways.

This year, as I prepared for the defence of my Olympic title, I received no wages after March. The manager of the team boasted to the girls that he was not going to pay us and that he would employ the very best Italian lawyers to prevent us being paid! He stated that next year – he would have his team riders chase us down in every race. Yes, there is a taboo about revealing what really goes on. Riders move teams. Teams find new riders trying to make a start in cycling with no idea of what is out there or what tricks the managers can get up to. Tales go round that certain riders are "difficult". I certainly was. The stories are invented. Riders are labeled as uncooperative, selfish, not team players – it must be the case, rider A has been in the sport 4 years and has moved teams each year. Novices and those new to the sport are encouraged to ride against certain riders.

At the end of this season I visited my erstwhile Mexican team-mate, Giuse who left Europe half way through the season because her wages had not been paid. She has a daughter. How is she meant to pay for food for herself and her girl?

To employ a "cleaner" or a youngster to wash up at a bar, an employer must pay a minimum wage. The UCI Road Commission headed by British Cycling's Brian Cookson has stated that whilst a minimum wage is
required for all male professionals, female riders do not deserve this. Only as recently as this October the commission rejected this simple request. There are two aspects of this case. One is straightforward and moral. Society cannot continue to leave all those girls in so vulnerable a position. A simple bar placed at the entry point for the sport would dispel all manner of problems. Are these girls that race for a living an underclass? They are somehow a sub-race not worthy of the most basic protection we afford the rest of our citizens in whatever employment they find themselves. Please understand, this is not about money, the main driver is the protection that will come from the placement of an absolute starting point for payment. The second factor is the one that demolishes the argument that it is sport; surely they are doing it for fun? Well what makes it different for men then? Why is there a minimum wage put in place for male riders? It protects them from being taken advantage of. Why are women not worthy of that same protection?

Women’s cycling has declined through each year of my career. It is not a sustainable business model. Yes new races have been added to the calendar but loss exceeds growth. Look at the Giro – whilst team Sky plot their team for both the Tour and the Giro, the girls don’t even know what part of Italy the race will take place in! This is not a time for “tweaking” or “minor correction”. Whilst so much time, energy and resource has been spent defending and analyzing the indefensible, from a woman’s perspective, Rome has quietly burned down. Radical and significant change is needed and the enforcement of a minimum wage is the foundation stone. I know teams will go out of existence as a result. The first hand experiences of many of those people I value and respect, along with my own experiences, mean that the loss of many of these teams will not be mourned. There will be then proper reward and proper cognizance of those that try and do it right. The good teams left will rightly be celebrated. And that is how it should be.

Summary

So, my roller coaster of a cycling career has come to an end. I have worked very, very hard, putting in many, many thousands of miles in all kinds of weathers. I have had many head winds from many places that you would not expect. But I have an awful lot of people around me who supported me through thick and thin. Many have helped me but a few special names are Andy Walser, Rod Jaques, Chris Price and the surgeon Jonathon Webb who operated on my knees. Also, from the early days, Ron Dowling, Brian Rourke and Cliff Poulton, and two no longer with us - Geoff Greenfield and Walter Rixon.

I have enjoyed the adrenaline of competition, that feeling of fear going in to the closing stages of races, never giving up and getting every last bit of energy out before the finish line. I have loved the thrill of the tactics and cunning unfolding on the road and the elation of winning. I have had great battles with many different riders over the years and I also look fondly on the races I did not win as they often served as harsh lessons to me and helped me improve.

I really do treasure the letter the official wrote to me after winning the Olympic Road Race, the same official who blocked my path when I was 14 at the grass track. He and I greet each other very warmly each time we
meet and I am very fond of him. He was magnanimous enough to admit his error. British Cycling and the scene in Britain is changed out of all recognition to that which lay ahead of me as a 12 year old, dreaming of riding the great climbs and perhaps getting a coloured tee-shirt or two along the way. I will take pride in every Dani King, Laura Trott or Jo Rowsall that achieves a medal. They have a pathway and support system that was not available before that dreaming 12 year old helped cause permanent change. I upset many people. I am so glad I did in this respect

I have ridden through the time of Lance and all the dreadful tragedy that the abuses surrounding him have brought to my sport. I have faced up to the temptations, but have always remained true to the 12 year old inside me. Yes I have suffered as a result, in many ways, but so what, I am not alone, I am one representative of that group, those who do it right.

And as I check out, that 12 year old has a basket of tee-shirts; a collection that brings the biggest smile to her face.

My time in the sport is finished. I hope I will look on in 10 years time and see a vibrant and healthy women’s road scene. The key to that will be that the female athletes are treated with respect. Just like others in our society and their male counterparts, I hope they have the protection of a minimum wage.

In a drawer I keep two sets of medals that remain so dear to me. Alongside the Olympic road race and World Championship road race medals, the first ever pair won in the same year together, a unique first for anyone, male or female. Alongside them, 4 other gold medals. The first ever ones awarded at the first ever British youth Girls track championships. I am just as proud of each of those sets. I really hope I have helped create change.

Thank you all for coming here today and listening to my account. I leave the sport and hope that during my time in it I have helped make it a better place. I hope that by bringing a wider understanding to some of the issues that face the sport it will create change so that the 12 year olds dreaming today can have a rewarding future within it. I look forward to the exciting next chapter of my life and I thank you all for your support during the last one.

Thank you.

Powerful Statement of Facts ! Good to see Nicole did not dump on the likes of Jeannie Longo !

TIME that Brian Cookson got his act together ! Heard he was having a bleat about Lance today , well mate , time you fixed your back yard , that is WHAT YOU & British Cycling ARE PAID FOR ! The Women have to pay " Licence Fees to race ? Nicole has paid compliments , about BCF creating events at the beginning of her career , but you didn't think she was supposed to find ALL her own expenses ?

There is light at the end of the tunnel though ! With Tracy Gaudry , being elected President of the Oceania Region of the UCI , and the Cycling Australia Review , calling for a Womens Commission , the ground is being prepared to ensure that Australian Women's Cycling will get a better deal . With these initiatives ,  British Cycling will feel honour bound to follow suit . The ONLY problems could be , the attitudes of some of the " Continental Team Managers " , as described by Nicole . Leopards do not change spots overnight !

Tonight the Major news Networks are full of the reports , that Lance has " Apologised to LiveSTRONG Staff " for what he has put them through , due to the Controversy raging around him ! As yet , no mention of Contrition or CONFESSION ! Why would he , when he thinks he has done NOTHING WRONG !

Tweeting Lance with this N icole Article Link ( http://www.nicolecooke.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=1&Itemid=18 )http://www.nicolecooke.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=1&Itemid=18     , if he has time to read and understand , he will realise that like " jeanson " , he has STOLEN from his competitors . That some were " juiced " does not justify his actions

ASPIRING CYCLE RACERS

So you want to turn your Cycling Enjoyment into an income  ? Totally turned on with being outdoors in all weathers , enjoying the passing scenery ? Getting a buzz out of beating your friends over the line in Cycle Races ? Want to travel and see other parts of the world ? Have the ability to punish your body , until pain is all you feel ? Spend long hours on the open road and after recover quickly enough , that you are looking forward to repeating the experience the next days ?

Well life can be rewarding as a Bike Racer and YOU are the one who controls your destiny ! This week we are seeing so many of your " Peers " claiming they were forced down a road , they knew they should not take , but wanted to remain competitive ! So many of these people say that they sacrificed their principles to remain in the racing arena they felt they were " entitled " to inhabit ! They were Adults , they had been taught " right " from " wrong " as they grew into Adults ! Fact is they forgot some of the principles that were instilled into them by their parents . Some even claim they went against their own desires , into taking drugs because of " Team Orders "! No drugs , no job ! Yes there were some that buckled under , and there were many that walked away with their integrity !

Those that chose integrity over expedience , perhaps , do not enjoy the material benefits that those who regretted their choices this week , but some have done even better ! There are many who chose " Doping " that are not alive today because of the careless attitude of those supervising their " Sporting Fraud "! So many of the racers choosing the " Sporting Fraud " route are reported " Sick " when they have had severe reactions to the " blood Bags " , the contents of which , they were required to reinsert . Some of these " bags " contained the " blood "of other racers ! Seems the " Doctors " were so careless they could not even care for their Clients health ?

This week i saw a report from a former British Champion Cyclist that enjoyed a training ride alongside Lago Como with Lance Armstrong in 1994 . During the ride a discussion on drugs took place and obviously Lance did not enjoy Brian's attitude to Doping , since two weeks later , he was told that his contract with Motorola Team , would not be renewed . Brian is a founding member of " Braveheart ", a British Cycling Charity , among his many other accomplishments since that time !

A blog i follow is written by Steve Tilford  , well worth the visit and worth following :

http://stevetilford.com/?p=22105

When you obtained your " Race Licence " , your fees were allocated to a variety of destinations including  the " UCI ", which is supposed to be the World Governing body for Cycle Racing . Currently there are difficulties in the Administration of Cycling since those in the Top Tier of Management of " UCI " are embroiled in disputes of various sorts regarding their " Personal Attitude " towards certain Racers ! An example of the difficulties that they face is the fact that they are engaged in Legal challenges against individuals such as Paul Kimmage , a journalist that reported matters in relation to Doping . Hein Verbruggen has in the past supported the likes of Lance Armstrong with statements that have been found to be incorrect and he has tried to backtrack unsuccessfully :

"  We’ve also seen the UCI themselves attempting to spin themselves out of their responsibility, beginning with Hein Verbruggen stating “And I never said that Armstrong never doped.“ However it’s pretty hard to deny the following comments he made to ad.nl in May of 2011, as reported by cyclingnews.com, where he said:

That’s impossible, because there is nothing. I repeat again: Lance Armstrong has never used doping. Never, never, never. And I say this not because I am a friend of his, because that is not true. I say it because I’m sure. Even if we would like, it would not be possible to bury a positive test. Test results are not only to the UCI, but also to the WADA. So once and for all: under my chairmanship have such practices never occurred at the UCI. "

It is good to see people standing up for those that they are responsible , but when the organisation they control  decides to cover up " Dopers " that should be sanctioned , then it would appear that there is either a two tier system or outright FRAUD ! Unfortunately the majority of the members of " UCI " will suffer for the benefit of the few .

ADDITION WED 17th October :

Anyone motivated to become a Bike Racer needs to read this article by Michael Barry , the Canadian , from Pro World Tour Level :

A great Guy to know , forced to make unhealthy decisions !  DON’T FOLLOW HIS EXAMPLE !

Perhaps you are ALL aware of Paul Kimmage , here is a link to the review of the book he wrote released in 1990 , according to the reviewer , most of it is relevant today :

PAUL KIMMAGE

" The Rough Ride " written long years ago , went against the grain , and thus Paul Kimmage became a " pariah " in the Cycling Industry ! Moving into a new way of looking at what has happened in the Cycling scene , has become de riguer all of a sudden , certainly since Lance was advised by USADA that they were seeking to strip him of his Palmares since 1998 !

Last year Paul was interviewed at the Tour de France and some of the subjects raised would cause people to reassess their attitudes to those in the peloton , myself included : http://www.veloveritas.co.uk/2012/09/25/pk-2/

Recently i have seen reports that Lance's Wife passed out " items " at the 1998 World Road Race Championships in Valkenberg , that was a " tipping point " from my perspective . Hard to believe that Lance was " innocent " of ALL the accusations leveled at him , with his wife acting in this manner ? Like so many i was happy to wait for the " proofs " that he was all that was said of him .

Whilst i do not rely on the likes of shamilton and flandis , i do believe that Kimmage and Walsh were on the right track with their revealing articles . " Emma O'Rielly " was , like Betty Andreau , treated to a battering in the media , but stuck to her position regardless of the consequences . Recently we have seen some Cycle Racers like " Bassoon and Simeoni " being hailed for their stance regarding the " Doping Era " .

Omerta still seems to be holding many Cycle Athletes in it's thrall , but with the USADA investigation following the Federal Grand Jury , many former colleagues of Lance have owned up to their involvement in the " Doping Era " ! Whether their evidence involving Lance , will be accepted as fact , no longer matters , since Lance on the 25th August , chose to " walk away " from the " arbitration process " that US Cyclists are bound by , with their Race Licences ! That they race with a US Licence in Europe , means that they must conform to the US rules and regulations , does it not ?

During the past week we have seen " UCI " trumpet their win against flandis in the Swiss Courts ! What a joke ! Before this announcement , i and others were aware that there was an action in progress , but even that was because Heinous said that flandis could not be found ! Some joker on CNF stated that they did a search ( google ? ) and found him in one effort , says a lot for how hard the " UCI people " were looking .

That flandis's lawyer says no papers were served sounds certain , that he did not appear in the Swiss Court , is a fact . That in recent times he has been committed by US Courts to repay $480000 to those who believed his lies , could mean that he no longer had the funds available to visit Switzerland if he chose to defend himself .

That the prats of Aigle succeeded in telling ALL and Sundry what flandis stated some years ago , has now come back to haunt them . Just about anyone that is interested in Cycle Racing now knows that he said CERTAIN THINGS that can be summed up as follows :

" The Swiss Court ruled that flandis can no longer state the following in these words : that " the UCI, Hein Verbruggen and Pat McQuaid " : .have concealed cases of doping. .received money for doing so. .have accepted money from Lance Armstrong to conceal a doping case. .have protected certain racing cyclists, concealed cases of doping. .have engaged in manipulation, particularly of tests and races. .have hesitated and delayed publishing the results of a positive test on Alberto Contador. .have accepted bribes. .are corrupt. .are terrorists. .have no regard for the rules. .load the dice. .are fools. .do not have a genuine desire to restore discipline to cycling. .are full of sh1t. .are clowns. .their words are worthless. .are liars. .are no different to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

Of course there are ways they can spend more money in the USA Courts to make the decision of the Swiss Court applicable in the USA , but, we have seen their behaviour in relation to Greg Lemond , when they took the same action route against him some while before . Could Greg initiate an action against phat &  heinous to cause then to avoid visits to the USA in case there is risk of imprisonment if his Court action was to succeed ?

Paul Kimmage was also treated to a similar court summons and is thus required to be in Aigle on Dec 12th 2012 . Could it be that the " prats " will have the matter adjourned for fear that they will have their butts soundly kicked ? Through the intervention of one of the " publishers " of the offending articles , a " Defence Fund " was set up by the following site which currently contains contributions by 1700+ people , including Greg Lemond , of in excess of $53000 !

 http://www.cyclismas.com/

Paul Kimmage called earlier in the year for a " Root & Branch " clean up of the " UCI " , and this must have struck a chord with Phat , since he proposed a " truth & Reconciliation Commission " , at the UCI Management Meeting in Holland recently . This was recently backed by Anne Gripper formerly a member of UCI Management , but the " UCI  Board " decided , that it was not necessary , since they were already doing such a " good job ( my words ) "

 http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/gripper-cycling-cannot-move-forward-until-lance-issue-is-resolved?ns_campaign=news&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_source=cyclingnews&ns_linkname=0&ns_fee=0

Rupert Guinness , an Australian Journalist has recently returned from vacation and as the articles that follow indicate , he has undergone a revision of his approach to the doings of Lance and the UCI .

 http://m.smh.com.au/sport/cycling/cycling-must-come-clean-from-top-down-20120926-26kzv.html

 http://m.smh.com.au/sport/cycling/exdoping-head-backs-armstrong-inquiry-20121005-274ox.html

Here is what a member of the CNF had to say about him on a thread in recent days :
 http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=18735

" rupert is not a real journalist, he just writes fluffy 'opinion' pieces about what people want to hear (though he never seems to have his own real opinion on anything) but yes it appears that the tide is turning when a clown like rupert turns on wonderboy "

Another commented : " It has been a long hard road but I think we are finally getting somewhere. The comments section now has 'Lance is a cheater' remarks greatly outnumbering apologist remarks. A lot of articles I read have a tone that assumes that everybody understands LA was a doper. In a podcast I listened to several weeks ago the commentators spoke in defense of LA and very much against USADA only to have an interview in the next show with Alexi Grewal where he nonchalantly stated "I probably would have doped like lance did too!" You nailed it Dr Mas. Thankfully we are now getting some truth. I am glad I won't have to have lance is a doper arguments anymore. The only thing is now the arguments will be whether it was morally acceptable or not. __________________ It’s an inbred system where the mentality is that if I don’t get caught then I’m clean.-JJ "

Because of the " Paul Kimmage Defence Fund " and thus the likelihood that IF the prats of Aigle appear in the Aigle Court on Dec 12th , the Cycling World will see the " UCI " shown , for what it has become , REAL CHANGE could take place !

Regardless of what UCI does in the next week , since the USADA have advised they plan to deliver their report on the " Lance Affair " , Lance , himself has been busy with his life as demonstrated by the following report :

http://velonews.competitor.com/2012/10/news/must-read-armstrong-says-he-doesnt-care-about-doping-charges-confirms-livestrong-series-talks_255736

Thanks to Paul , many more Cycle Racers , will then find it possible to BREAK Omerta and speak out !

When the floodgates OPEN , Cycle Racers will feel safe to voice their feelings but will the likes of Jaschke benefit and be brought back into the fraternity ?

YOUR VOICE IS NEEDED , NOW !!

 ADDITIONAL MONDAY 8th Oct

REPORTS are coming through the internet , that those involved in the " UCI " court action , are planning to call a halt to this action ! There are also reports that Mc quaid´s sister has made some pertinent comments on this Court case ! Would appear that the $53500+ raised to date , by 1750+ concerned people , has had a dramatic effect on the " prats of Aigle " !Would it be that they thought , that they were attacking a " lone , defenceless , unemployed reporter / journalist " ?

BULLIES can be defeated by the TRUTH !

Not too late for Greg Lemond to issue legal action against the " prats of Aigle " for their attempt at silencing him ?

@paulkimmage is a twitter feed well worth following !  Last week he reminded me about a Great Paralympic Personality that i had found some time back and today he was revisiting how he came to join Garmin at the 2010 Tour de France ! Would love to see a blog about the experiences that he and his family are suffering as they approach the 12th Dec  confrontation in Aigle . There is bound to be a book at a later date and we have seen " Fat Cyclist " convert his earlier blog posts into the first of many books !

Lancing Armstrong

The Rumours are flying around that the horse has got away ! Yes the Tour de France has become the sideshow for the USADA tilt at gaining notoriety , as it endeavors to find traction and thus credibility,  in it's quest to destroy the efforts of a whole generation of US Cycle Racers ! Lance is the target , but any US Racer that was on his teams , are getting besmirched and splattered with flying DUNG !

In an effort to pursue Lance , it appears that USADA , is prepared to make the USA Cycling scene look like a cheating circus ! Take a good look at the offering above ! Needs little effort , to put names to the characatures  depicted !

What has brought this sideshow into the open ?

Speculation is rife that Lance or his supporters leaked to a variety of newspapers the speculation that a number of ex team mates were granted " Suspended Sanctions" for stepping up and giving evidence against guess WHO ? Seems there is nothing that the USADA will not do , to achieve their sole goal , of removing the " Armstrong Era " from the record books !  Remember Bjarne Riis made an admission of " Doping " some years ago ,  " ASO " removed him from their " Le Tour "records for a while , then backtracked and reinstated him  . Regardless of the result of USADA 's efforts can anyone imagine " Le Tour " records NOT showing Lance as the winner of 1999 through 2005 ?

New York Times printed the following report , after the Principle story appeared on Thursday in Madrid , Spain , Italy and Amsredam story :

" Tygart said that no individual cyclists had yet been punished in connection with the Armstrong case, contrary to a report Thursday in the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. That report said that Hincapie, Leipheimer, Vande Velde, Zabriskie and Jonathan Vaughters, a former Armstrong teammate who now runs the Garmin-Sharp team, arranged a deal with the antidoping agency to serve six-month suspensions for their own doping in connection with a suspected conspiracy. Those suspensions would begin in September, the newspaper said.

"  The Garmin-Sharp team, which is known for its stalwart stance on antidoping, said in a statement that “reports of suspensions are untrue.” "

As you will recall i follow the CyclingNews forum as a source of info as well as of amusement , one of those subscribers has acted like the " dutch boy with his finger in the dyke " , good on him !

his comment :

" can´t imagine anything will happen to Lance. He won´t be punished for anything, it all will lead to nothing at all.

I personally would have seen VandeVelde, Leipheimer and Hincapie as non-clean riders before, and Zabriskie as non-clean rider who rides non-clean only occassionally.

Tour-wise, mid 90ies to mid 00s have been the USPS/Telekom years. Telekom has been outed officially, so outing USPS is just fair, nothing more.

Lance is and stays the biggest rider of the Tour in history. Media had to write, the winners had to celebrate, fans had to cheer. The only ones who were cheated were the few clean guys. Look at Moncoutie, lokk at the 12 names who did better than him in the 2002 Tour, and you know who has reason to be angry.

Lance´s USADA case won´t change cycling, it will stay like it has always been. Cycling on world class level stays a battle of 98 % of guys on PEDs against 2 % on bread and water. Professional bodybuilding is 100 % - 0%, professional athletics maybe 90%-10%, tennis 70-30%, soccer 50-50, and so on. I can´t see anything can be changed or improved there; it´s good as it is in the moment.
I don´t like Francesco Mosers demand on legalizing PEDs, because then we have nearly 100-0 in cycling.

I have respect for Lance, I have also, and maybe even more, respect for Moncoutie. "

This guy deserves praise , as i had made a comment elsewhere , Thursday , after reading something which alerted me to the breaking story !

My comment :

Will even 1% believe that Lance was treated in a fair manner Or give a monkeys for anything that the usada slide under the radar whilst the USA are busy electing the next President ?

Perhaps there should be a subsection of the forum called " THE GLEE CLUB "!

Since then there are a couple of new threads on Lance and his behaviours !

In the TRi World there is a thread discussing his situation and asking for a straight " Yes " or " No "!

http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4028556;page=1;mh=-1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC

Lance is quite right with his assertion that USADA are continually moving the " goalposts "! In all other recent " doping cases " , sanctions start immediately BUT here these Five US Racers continue at the " Money Spinning Tour de France " as if nothing has happened ! Indeed JV says " THERE IS NO DEAL "!

Who to believe ?

Reading elsewhere i found this story on a Journo :

Regardless of what is appearing in the media , there are some " Journos " who still have an open mind on the Lance story !

Lance Armstrong : The Legacy !

TALL POPPY Syndrome is alive and flourishing ! Once again those seeking to " destroy " the person they envy most , have moved the " goalposts "! Didn't get the result they wanted in one venue , so they move to the next ! Over several years i have been watching the " mushrooms " gloating about having " the Goods " to convict Lance ! So many places where they dwell , can be found by tripping over a stone . That there are so very few of them that act in concert was shown when they tried to " Petition Pres. Barack Obama " shortly after the Fed's withdrew the Grand Jury action after spending countless millions during a two year span .

Based on the say so , of a disgruntled and disgraced cyclist , who thought he could reap some benefit , the Fed's launched an investigation to see if the US Postal Service had been " ripped Off "! Clearly that sanctimonious ex cyclist saw the possibility of " Millions of Dollars " , coming his way . Whoever put him up to this , is the entity that the Fed's should seek out for a recovery action , fat chance that flandis has two dimes to rub together . Of course there is more in the background that motivated an investigation . Some Feds build reputations on successfully revealing to the public the results of their inquiries .

Now we have USADA being encouraged to stir up the mud at the bottom of the pond , on the slim possibility that those informing them , will be treated as " credible witnesses " rather than malcontents seeking the OP. for a book or some time in the " limelight "!

WHAT USADA should be doing is drawing a line and saying the " Past has GONE "! From    1st July 2012 you have ONE MONTH to reveal ALL your past indiscretions , without penalty !

1st August2012 will be a new Era in the USA , any found to have covered up ANY WRONG DOING will be prosecuted . But here is the RUB ! All Athletes not revealing their past will " take Down " their " Handlers and Helpers "! That means IF WE WERE TALKING OF LANCE AS AN EXAMPLE then Johan Bruyneel , His Soigneurs , His Mechanics , His PR Staff would ALL receive " LifeTime Bans from ALL SPORT Activities !

CAN you imagine what pressure would be placed by these people on ANY Athlete to reveal their PAST  transgressions ? Nobody with any sense , will want to risk their current career even if it means being the " whistle blower "!

So many people who were Athletes are now on the Coaching and Admin staffs of a variety of sports . Are any of them " willing " to see their FUTURE come to a complete halt through an Athlete being embarrassed to admit to " Sporting Fraud " at some event , perhaps even 10 years ago ?  Testing of Athletes has reached the point where " samples " from 1999 are being thrust into the " limelight " as credible evidence , so it stands to reason that there are more such examples available .

Were i involved with a " Dubious Athlete " working in Sport , i would be asking my protege to reveal all , no doubt there will be those who will " cross fingers " and hope for the best BUT once the 1st August comes there will be nobody " let off "!  Did the " Crime , do the Time " !

SURELY IN THE OLYMPIC MOVEMENT there are SOME HONEST PEOPLE who without fear or favour can dictate to WADA and through them the rest of the World that " SPORTING FRAUD " is nO LONGER ACCEPTABLE !

Parents letting their sons and daughters deserve to know the Credentials of those Training them in ANY SPORT ! Many countries do a Police Check on the background of those involved with children . So how much more important is it that the children are not influenced by those taking " Short Cuts " to get " Results "?

With a new generation of " Clean /known backgrounds " , coaching at grassroots level will eventually see Athletes arriving in competition with no doubts as to their ability to resist the influence of those currently advocating use of products proscribed by WADA .

ONLY THE ATHLETES CAN DECIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR THEIR FUTURE ! I as a bystander can only wish to see less of the " finger pointing " and i am , like many , heartily sick of the continuing " SAGA "  surrounding the career of a retired Cyclist .

An article that came out in a " CNF thread " recently :

http://www.sfweekly.com/2005-09-07/news/tour-de-farce/

CNF has really gone to town on Lance recently with threads such as :

http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=17076

http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=17534

Also this last thread a chart surfaced in that thread :

Sorry the chart is not copy-able so take a visit

On the forum " happychappy " summed up what i personally think with :

Exactly this. I'm not sure how these people can enjoy spending every day for years working themselves up into these little "hater" frenzies they all have.
It always just boils down to bickering between themselves like schoolchildren in the end." !

Now you know why i call them " Mushrooms "! Perhaps I should call them Toadstools , because of their poisonous comments , about even those Racers who are as clean as a whistle !

INNSBRUCK revisted

Fallen off your stationary bike recently ? Happened this morning through lack of thought when sorting out a loose cassette yesterday . Nothing worse than a rattle is there ? Started on the weekend and after tightening a loose bottle holder , I thought problem solved but then it continued and then after fingering the cassette decided it was loose so stopped off at my local bike shop to get the Long crank to open the cassette and put in a slim shim . When Harry applied the tool we found it was already loose thus explaining the rattle , but since the 10th gear had been tingling the spokes I put the shim in anyway .

This morning being sunny and sufficiently warm for short sleeves and bib shorts I took off west through Munster but lacking power I struggled up the incline there and had to come to a fast stop as a car cut across me as it decided “ might has right ”! Dropping gears to get going again took the chain into the space between the wheel and cassette , locking everything up and not getting the foot out of the cleat I collapsed onto the bus stop area just as a bus arrived . No danger as he was travelling slowly so he moved up the road and off loaded his passengers whilst I struggled to free my foot from the pedal that was flat to the asphalt . Bus drove off without bothering to check whether help was needed .

Shaken up I got going again and before I got out of the village’s 50 kph zone was passed closely by a small truck who then promptly slowed , signalled a left turn and having slowed me turned into the place of business they occupy . I followed and went past to their office but no one was there and thus when they asked me what I was looking for I asked if there was anyone speaking English ? When they gave agreement I asked how they thought stopping me to turn was good road behaviour ? Having said there was a car coming , I asked why it was necessary to pass anyway and was told they were late for breakfast ! As they had their hands full it was obvious that there were many more workers involved , they being the delivery team . Was then told that I was on “ Private property , so F##k off you stupid c##t before we get the Polizei to deal with you ! Little choice since I at present do not wear a helmet camera nor had the necessary witnesses and was not injured in the incident .

Later as I entered Schwaz I passed the Bus depot so went into the office and found all four there understood English pretty well so explained the Bus Incident and went onto the lack of “ Signalling” passing that I have observed over a period . Generally Busses make little effort to signal passing cyclists and will move out a little when at speed but that lack of signal means following traffic do not see the cyclist until a collision is all but inevitable , thus there are some scary moments for even experienced cyclists . Trucks and light vans also cause the same problems with close following vehicles not being able to see through them . Following vehicles should not be so close but here in Austria we have some drivers with the Italian and French attitude of trying to crawl up the tail pipe of those in front ! Are they trying to save fuel by this stupidity or are they trying to wear out their brakes ?

The general attitude was that they would remind the drivers to do as required , signal overtaking but also mentioned the availability of the cycle paths in their area . Later I returned home on one of these paths which for the most part were in good condition for Race bike tyres . Over the years I have had several chats with people such as these and the outcome is usually agreement to remind their drivers that courtesy to Cyclists encourages the Tourists thus bringing more into their area and increasing their passenger numbers . People driving seeing “ Professional Drivers ” signalling would be reminded that they could improve their driving skills by doing the same ?

Cycling Lawyer has recently posted about his involvement with the London Met Police initiatives and it is clear that HGV owners are not being encouraged to comply with fitting the mirrors that are deemed necessary for safe operation of their larger vehicles . Since each vehicle with the older type mirrors have to be inspected annually I think that they should be given warning that they will fail the next inspection if the lack of this facility is not rectified . Surely the Road Tax on larger vehicles makes fitting these extra mirrors seem like a petty cash matter ?

Where in the Road Rules does it allow an aggrieved vehicle driver to chase a cyclist and try to stop them or even knock them from their bike so as to call the cops to report what they think is a “ Riders “ bad behaviour ? Heard of several incidents recently that would raise your blood pressure if you were involved ! Trying to ride on two postage stamps whilst the car is on four A4 pages is not an easy comparison . One thing I am sure of is that “ slapping the window “ of an irritating driver is better than hitting the panel work , but make sure you can get up on the kerb so that they can scrape their wheels if they try to cut any further into your riding area !

Just finished rereading “ It’s not about the bike “! as enjoyable as always and reminded me of how even the best riders find themselves in life threatening situations either by chance or losing track of where they are . Lance taking downhill corners at speed near Nice and running head on into a car through a lapse of attention I am sure has been repeated by others so many times . When riding the Tour Routes I am trying to emulate their pace but make certain to stay on my side of the road and even here in the off season I find enough drivers on my side of the narrow roads as they squeal their tyres through the smaller villages . My locality has just reduced from 50kph to 40 kph and to see the “ boys in blue ” hiding with their radar guns and unmarked cars trying to balance the budget is laughable but it is so much easier than stopping a driver who is talking on a mobile phone .

Papp has been featured by Cycling News as if he was a saint , for rolling over and offering up as much as he can to save himself from a lengthy prison confinement . Shame those on the various “ forums ” praising him for his offerings , forgot about all those slaughtered by the various “ Drug Cartels ” as they seek to increase their profits in places like Mexico . Whilst in Sydney in 1974 I had occasion to report some for dispensing so called soft drugs , not sure of the results there but year by year I see the growing threat to society of the acceptance of this “ Human Failing ” and no where do I see why it should be tolerated . 10 years with hard labour , preferably breaking rocks , would have sent a stronger message to the Cycling Community Clowns who think he is being a good boy ! Guess it is a NIMBY problem , not in my back yard , not reading the thoughts of this miscreant for the present is a happy situation but there are some of the commenters who are in withdrawal .

My recent post to the CNF/mushroom farm :

“ At about the 150th page of a book i have just finished rereading i came across the " motivation " that prompted the setting up of " LiveSTRONG " ! I find the " It's not about the bike" quite motivating and from the comments in this thread it is obvious that most of you have read it more than once also !

No doubt some of you have marked the various quotations with Highlighter and may even have your own index of contents so as to go back to refute assertions made by others !

HOW so many of you having read ( perhaps your perception skills are lacking ) this book and others and then twisted those quotations to suit your own purposes defy my imagination ! That LA is not a saint is made clear in his own writings and musings but he definitely has not been " Convicted in a Legal Court " of ALL that some of you wish "! Trying to liken him to papp , flandis , shamilton and others belittles your own intellect , that is if you ever had this faculty ! Reminds me of some of those odious comments that arrived on my blogs by " anonymous " , gutless and thoughtless would have been a better moniker !

That we have passed 7900 comments on this thread alone makes me wonder how much bile is out there ? SHOULD LA find himself in a Court of Law , i doubt that any of you will treat him in the same way that you treated papp now that he has been silenced ( perhaps only temporarily ) ! Last month i was waiting like so many others with bated breathe for the predictions to be fulfilled but the Astroid sailed past Earth last night without headlines ! Which of you is going to stand in the sand pit on a soapbox and make the next pronouncement of his difficulties with this " Court of public opinion" ?

Not sure what i will do for amusement when this thread comes to a grinding halt , perhaps take to reading his other books for a start !

Having sent the Innsbruck Parking Police Authority several emails I finally received an automated reply yesterday so had an Austrian friend phone this morning on my behalf ! He was told that their computer has a “ virus ” so they do not read or answer emails ! He was also tolsd that since I had left it until today to ring that I should pay up as I HAD LEFT IT TOO LATE to seek redress ! My employer’s vehicle is shown on their computer screen and the comment was that “ they
Can afford to pay ” ! A$$hole forgets it comes out of the pocket of a 66yo non pensioned individual who can ill afford the loss to a sneak thief employed by their sub contractor ! I have had to advise the vehicle owner of this lack of co operation and the fact is my recompense for the work will be reduced by the Euro21 as a result . Had I been driving a rental vehicle the result would have been a double payment since those like AVIS choose to collect double the amount to cover their involvement . The parking people are aware of this situation and must be severely brain damaged to treat people in this way , they continue to try to justify their existence by creating a profit on others misfortune .

Paralympic Games started as the “ Stoke Mandeville Games ” in 1948 and have grown throughout the years into the first “ Paralympic Games ” at Rome in 1960 ! The reason for mentioning this is the death recently of a well known benefactor and fund raiser of the hospital . This truly remarkable character raised over £40 million as well as contributing massive amounts of personal monies and daily visits to the unit that he caused to be built . Sir Jimmy Saville was an extraordinary person and there are many I know who have met him although I only sighted him on one of my visits to the Hospital .

Follow this link to the better description of his efforts on behalf of Spinal victims , the author describes his before and after contacts :

A truly remarkable story and a man that will be greatly missed by all who had contact with him

R I P Sir Jimmy !
